Information Literacy Grants

Heterick Memorial Library and the Center for the Advancement of Faculty Excellence have partnered to provide grants that enable undergraduate faculty to work with librarians to design courses and assignments that enable Ohio Northern University’s students to become better researchers and scholars.  Each faculty member who receives a grant will work with a librarian to improve or create new content that relates to information literacy or research skills. Emails announcing the grants will be sent in the fall and spring semesters and two grants are awarded per semester.

Deadline for submission for Fall 2021 grants is April 12, 2021.

Eligibility:

All undergraduate full-time tenured, tenure-track and visiting faculty are eligible to apply.  Eligibility is limited to faculty who have not received this grant in the past two years.

Guidelines

  • Heterick Memorial Library and CAFE seek creative approaches to integrating information literacy into the curriculum.   Projects can include new course proposals, course revisions, and creation of assignments.  Information literacy assessment projects are also welcome.
  • Projects where information literacy connects with other literacies such as visual literacy are also welcome.
  • Projects can be both disciplinary and interdisciplinary.
  • Projects that meet or incorporate the General Education Program Requirement of Critical and Creative Thinking are encouraged.  
  • Projects from all levels of the curriculum are encouraged from first year orientation classes to capstone courses. 
  • Grants may be submitted by an individual faculty member or more than one faculty member.
  • Collaboration with a librarian is required.  Please contact a librarian to work with before submitting the grant.  The role of the librarian will vary depending on the nature and scope of the project.
  • The grant proposal must contain an assessment component. 
  • At the end of each academic year grant recipients from that year will participate in a workshop hosted by Heterick Memorial Library and CAFE in which they will present a report on the nature of their project and the project's outcomes to an audience of interested faculty from across the university.
  • Stipends will be $300 each.

  • Nature of the project
  • Evidence of the integration of information literacy into the curriculum
  • Quality of assessment plan
  • Wider application of pedagogy to other courses and programs
