Overview

During the summer of 2020, members of the ONU Football program came together as a group in response to the recent racial violence that was occurring throughout our nation. As a part of their response, they committed themselves to taking anti-racist actions, which included a team initiated Listen & Learn program, involving interviews with former players and coaches of diverse backgrounds. Video recordings of the interviews are presented below.

Will Bodden - ONU Class of 2016

2016 ONU graduate Will Bodden discusses personal experiences with racism, as well his perspective on police discrimination and violence towards Black Americans.

Taariq Florence - ONU Class of 2016

Tarariq Florence, a 2016 graduate and 2017 Master's Degree recipient from ONU, discusses the history of systemic racism in America, including the day-to-day impact for Black communities and the role of symbols like the Confederate flag and monuments.

Andre Griffin - ONU Assistant Football Coach, 2020 -

ONU Assistant Coach and former Lima High School Head Football Coach reflects on a time that he was racially profiled, as well as how sports can help bring people from diverse backgrounds come together.

Chase Jones - ONU Class of 2013

2013 ONU graduate and church pastor, Chase Jones discusses his thoughts on the "pyramid of racism," anti-racist actions, and the importance of being able to listen and talk to one another.

E.J. Henderson - ONU Assistant Football Coach, 2016

Former ONU Assistant Football Coach, E.J. Henderson shares his thoughts on the presence of racism in America and different stages of anti-racism in America, including a focus on the importance of acknowledging racism and its effects on our society.

Nick Hensley - ONU Class of 2016

Nick Hensley, another 2016 graduate and 2017 Master's Degree recipient from ONU, reflects on the founding and purpose of Brother 2 Brother at ONU, different levels of racism that he has experienced during his life, and the difference that listening and showing support can make.

Glenn Stanton - ONU Class of 2008

A 2008 graduate of ONU, Glenn Stanton shares his perspective on growing up predominately white areas as an individual with a multi-racial background. Additionally, he talks about dealing with racist microaggressions, and how racism can affect policing and Black experiences.
