Evaluating the information that you find is a critical part of doing research. This page lists resources for two very good strategies: the SIFT Method and Lateral Reading.

The SIFT Method


Lateral Reading

Lateral Reading is the best way to evaluate information, but it requires time and skill. It's the approach used by professional fact-checkers. The Stanford History Education Group provides curriculum for teaching the technique in classrooms, and provides an introduction to the concept in the video below.
