Downloading EBSCO eBooks

Can I download the eBook? YES, for up to 28 days. After that, you'll need to check the item out again and re-download it.

EBSCO eBooks can be downloaded using Adobe Digital Editions or the EBSCO Mobile App.

You can also read EBSCO eBooks in the browser and bypass downloading them completely.

If you would like to download an EBSCO eBook on a desktop, you will need to follow the following steps.

Before or during downloading:

  • Create an EBSCO account
  • Download Adobe Digital Editions
    • You can create an Adobe ID, which allows you to access the materials in your library from multiple devices, or you can authorize only the computer and bypass creating an account.

Creating an EBSCO Account

In order to download eBooks from EBSCO, you'll need an EBSCO account. The instructions below will guide you through the process of creating an account:

  1. From the EBSCO database of your choice, select the Sign In button in the top blue bar of the page

The button is located towards the top right

  2. Next, on the Sign In page, select the link labeled Create one now towards the bottom of the page to create an account. The linked page should look like the one below:

The linked page should have fields where you can enter your information

  3. Fill out the required information. It is not required to use your ONU email address, but it is recommended
  4. Press the Continue button once you've successfully entered your information. If you cannot select the button, double check that you've entered your information correctly and that you've agreed to the EBSCO Data Retention Policy by check marking the box next to it.
  5. Once you've finished entering your information you can follow the link to sign into your EBSCO account.

EBSCO Mobile App

The EBSCO Mobile App allows you to download their eBooks directly without using Adobe Digital Editions. An EBSCO account is still required.

Troubleshooting and Tips

  • You do not have to download the eBook to read it! If you don't need to access the book offline, the PDF Full Text link allows you to read the book in your browser without downloading.
  • Don't bookmark the page in EBSCO! If you want to bookmark the eBook for quick access, we suggest using the POLAR catalog permanent link for the easiest and most reliable access. If you were sent an email about your book, use the link in that email, which should look similar to this: https://polar.onu.edu/record=b2511393~S7
    • If you're not sure how to do this, send us a message with the title of your book and we'll send you the correct link.
  • You don't have to create an Adobe ID. There is a checkbox to authorize your computer without an ID, but you will only have access to the eBooks on that computer.
  • If the book isn't showing in Adobe Digital Editions, look in your Downloads folder. You may be able to open it from there if you have Adobe Digital Editions installed.
