To register for Westlaw, you should have received an email with registration instructions and a registration key that can be used to activate your account. From the email, click the "Activate Now" link and follow these steps:
Go to www.lawschool.westlaw.com and click on the “Register Password” link on the left-hand side of the screen.
At the registration screen, click on the option for “Registering for the first time”
You will next be prompted for your e-mail address—Use your university email address.
You will next be prompted for your Westlaw Password, which was sent to you via email.
On the next screen, you will create your Westlaw OnePass (a Username/Password combination that you will use from that point forward to access Westlaw and TWEN) and fill in the remaining required information fields.
To confirm that your password is registered properly, go to www.lawschool.westlaw.com, enter your OnePass, and click Sign On—You should then see your name and law school appearing in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.
Westlaw offers a plethora of on-demand learning, many of which offer LinkedIn Certificates upon completion. These can be found on the Law School Homepage by hovering over the "On-Demand Learning" drop down menu. You will also find Guided research and citation exercises here.
Westlaw also offers a collection of student resources that includes a "Law School Survival Guide" and "Assignment Guides" for a Closed Memo, Open Memo, and Appellate Brief - all assignments you will be completing in your 1L year. These can be found on the Law School Homepage by hovering over the "Student Resources" drop down menu. You can also find scheduled webinars here.
Westlaw also offers a library of brief tutorial videos and guides for using the Westlaw legal research database and all its advanced features. This collection can be by logging into Westlaw, opening Westlaw Precision and scrolling to the very bottom of the page. In the end credits, click on "Training and Support." This will open their Westlaw Precision Training Resources collection.
