Demco Webinar Suggestions

Notes from Demco Webinar - presented by pediatric doctor with Master’s in Public Health from UW Madison; attended by Kathleen

  1. Number of patrons - check with local health department , not much guidance yet related to time in a space
  2. Temperature screenings - would be cumbersome and not necessarily effective for stopping the spread of the virus as there are asymptomatic carriers.  Might provide more confidence to users though.  More effective might be signage asking patrons not to enter if they are exhibiting any signs of sickness.
  3. Non-compliance of patrons to rules - try do de-escalate, promote kindness and understanding, otherwise contact local authorities/security
  4. Staged re-opening - recommended, start with most remote first
  5. Sneeze guards - good idea - use in additional to masks and potentially a face shield
  6. Handling materials - do not touch face, wash hands even after using gloves - - although gloves are very problematic in general as protective devices.
  7. Books
    1. Not a lot of data on how long virus remains on surfaces, only one study which said the virus stays on cardboard for 4 hours
    2. For absolute 100% - quarantine for 14 days (this seemed extreme to me)
    3. Recommended Sani-cloths for wiping down books with plastic covers - leave 2-3 mins to dry
    4. UV light - not enough data, use machine designed for this. (personally I think this would be damaging to the book)
  8. General cleaning - Refer to CDC guidelines
  9. Bathrooms - not feasible in most libraries to clean after every use, provide signage reminding patrons of handwashing/ maybe hand sanitizer patrons could use before entering the bathroom.
  10. Seating - Rearrange to promote social distancing
