Data Management: Data Management Plans

Why create a data management plan?

A data management plan will help you manage your data, meet any grant or funder requirements and enable you to share your data with others.

Many funding agencies such as the National Science Foundation have very specific requirements for data management.

Data management plans also are helpful because:

  1. Several people may be collecting data and the plan ensures data will be collected and stored in a consistent form and manner.
  2. The researcher saves time in the long run with properly managed data.
  3. Data retrieval will be easier in the future.
  4. Data management plans help guide the life-cycle of the research project - - assigning roles and activities and managing the roles and activities of a project.
